Jermaine Dupri Stealing From Jagged Edge?

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

jagged-edge
There are rumors flying around that Kyle of Jagged Edge is telling everyone that “Jermain Dupri is a crook and did the group wrong.”

Kyle goes on to say that he isn’t happy with the direction the group is going and he’s not feeling how they’re not making much money or getting much publicity. Who’s fault is that? I guess Kyle feels it’s J.D.’s fault. Anyway, Kyle is supposedly looking for a solo deal but can’t find anyone to sign him….hmmmm I wonder why?

This sounds suspect to me.  Maybe someone is a little bitter? I guess we’ll have to just wait and see how and if the story unfolds.

Jobless Claims Top 5 Million

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

From The Huffington Post

Job Less

Job Less

WASHINGTON — New jobless claims rose more than expected last week and the number of laid-off Americans continuing to receive unemployment benefits topped 5.1 million, fresh evidence the recession is increasingly forcing employers to shed jobs.

The Labor Department said Thursday that first-time requests for unemployment benefits jumped to 667,000 from the previous week’s figure of 631,000. Analysts had expected a slight drop in claims.

The 667,000 new claims are the most since October 1982, though the labor force has grown by about half since then. The four-week average of initial claims, which smooths out fluctuations, rose to 639,000, the highest in more than 26 years.

Kelloggs Take a Loss After Dropping Phelps

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Michael Phelps

CHICAGO (AdAge.com) — What can more damage your reputation — recalling peanut butter products due to possible salmonella contamination or firing a bong-smoking Michael Phelps? According to a little-known online “social evaluation” community, Kellogg took a much bigger hit for the latter.

Vanno, a website that follows 5,500 companies, compiles its reputation index by capturing “gossip, news, opinion and personal insight about companies and their reputations” submitted by users that it converts into numerical scores and rankings.

Its figures shows Kellogg, which was ranked an impressive No. 9 in January, fell to No. 16 after announcing its peanut-butter-related recalls. But the company fell to No. 68 after letting Mr. Phelps go, on Feb. 5. According to Vanno, Kellogg has since fallen to 83.

The Battle Creek, Mich.-based marketer did not immediately respond to a request for comment. (more…)

American Idol Cat Wars

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Following Paula Abdoul’s comments that she doesn’t think the idea of four judges on “American Idol” was such a good idea, Kara DioGuardi, who joined “American Idol” this year as the fourth member on the judging panel, is firing back.

“Paula has a right to her opinions, but I was disappointed by her comments, and hurt that she did not address them to me in person,” Kara said in an exclusive statement to Access Hollywood.

In an interview with OK! magazine, Paula said while she “gets along great” with Kara, she doesn’t think adding a new judge was what was best for the FOX show.

“We tried four judges before and it doesn’t work. It takes up so much time for each of us to give our opinion that it slows down the pace of the show,” Paula told OK!. (more…)

Housewives Of Atlanta’s Lisa Wu Hartwell Sues Keith Sweat

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I love “Housewives of Atlanta” just as much as the next person but boy do these ladies have thangs goin on in their lives!  I can totally understand why they would just go ahead and be on tv.

Lisa Wu Hartwell filed for primary custody of her two sons with ex-husband, R&B singer Keith Sweat.  Apparently, she is seeking “primary physical custody and joint legal custody with final decision-making on all issues regarding the minor children.” She will “reasonably engage Father in good faith discussions before any final decisions are made concerning the children?s welfare.” The two children are Jordan Sweat, age 14, and Justin Sweat, age 11.  If she does get custody, she requests child support as well.

In 2003, Sweat received primary custody of the children. According to the final divorce decree written by Fulton Superior Court judge Cynthia D. Wright, Sweat and Wu Hartwell married in 1992 and had the judge termed at the time an “extremely tumultuous relationship.” Wright wrote that “there is evidence that Father has been violent towards Mother, but no evidence he has ever been violent with any of his children.” (more…)

Murdoch ‘racist’ cartoon apology

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

From BBC

Murdoch

Murdoch

The owner of the New York Post, Rupert Murdoch, has apologised for a cartoon which critics said was a racist depiction of President Barack Obama.

Newspaper cartoonist Sean Delonas drew police shooting dead a chimp, while remarking “they’ll have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill”.

But Mr Murdoch said the cartoon was meant to mock Mr Obama’s legislation and was not intended to be racist.

The newspaper had apologised to readers last week after widespread criticism.

The cartoon, published on 18 February, came a day after Mr Obama signed into law a $787 billion economic stimulus package approved by Congress after weeks of wrangling.

The image referred to a gruesome incident earlier that week, when a pet chimp in Connecticut attacked and disfigured a woman before being shot dead by police.

Black History Month

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I couldn’t let this month go by without at least acknowledging the following events:

A black girl escorted to school in 1960

On November 14, 1960, nearly 49 years ago, 6 year old Ruby Bridges faced hostile crowds, and had to be escorted by U.S. Marshalls , because she was the first black child to attend previously all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans , Louisiana . Ruby was 6 years old. (Norman Rockwell created the painting above depicting that event.) (more…)
