Ultra Modern Houses in Dubai: Luxury Living on the Water

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

As attracted to ultramodern luxury living as Americans are said to be, it is hard to rival Dubai in terms of sheer architectural exuberance and engineering excess. Fascinatingly enough, the actual style of many of their high-end residences harkens back to High Modernism – with extra money and amazing sites making them seem entirely new and amazing to the untrained eye.

The island of Nurai is one of the latest of Dubai developments to catch the fancy of foreign visitors and potential investors. While much of the expansion of Dubai has slowed there is still an enormous amount of money moving through it. The residences shown here (above) feature bridge-only accessibility, rooftop decks complete with private pools and countless other luxurious amenities.

Much like Postmodernism in 1980s and 1990s architecture, featuring decorative throwbacks tied to ancient Egyptians and Greeks, one has to wonder if this perpetual reuse of Modernist geometries and spatial strategies will continue to remain popular or will also look dated within a few short decades.

70% of African American Women are Single

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Very shocking, and hard to believe. I hope that this is a mistake. We need to create more opportunities for the Black Men in the United States. From the men I talk to, there seems to be a lack of hope and proper paying business and job selections for the brothers in America. At some point the brothers need to pray to GOD and trust in the man above and realize that he has your back and there is no need to take penitentiary chances. That CNN show on Black America was a joke and did not reflect the real Black America. I guess a 4 hour special could never address the state of Black America.

JemBlog – Daily Workout – Warm up First

Monday, July 27th, 2009

When You Warm Up, Break a Sweat

Are you taking your pre-exercise warm-ups too lightly? If you don’t begin to sweat, the answer could be yes.

A warm-up is a low-intensity cardiovascular exercise performed for 5 to 10 minutes until perspiration begins. Brisk walking, jogging, cycling are just a few examples of warm-ups.

It’s important to note that strength-training workouts – and not just cardiovascular exercise – should be preceded by a warm-up. If you exercise working muscles that are not adequately warmed up, you could be increasing your risk of injury.

Apple, Major Record Labels Work on Plan to Boost Album Sales

Apple Inc and four record labels are working on a plan to increase digital sales of albums, while the computer maker is also separately developing a tablet-sized device, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

Apple is working with EMI, Sony Music, Warner Music and Vivendi’s Universal Music Group on the project, “Cocktail,” with the sides hoping for a launch in September, the paper reported, citing unnamed sources. APPLE, and the four largest record labels, are reportedly working together to stimulate digital sales of full albums by bundling a new interactive booklet, sleeve notes and other interactive features with music downloads, in a move it hopes will change buying trends on its online iTunes store.

Apple also hopes to offer the tablet-sized computer in time for Christmas shopping, the FT reported.

The computer will connect to the Internet like Apple’s ipod Touch and its screen may be up to 10 inches diagonally, the paper reported.

The paper said book publishers have also been in talks with the computer maker about offering their services on the new device, which could compete with Amazon’s Kindle.

Apple and the music companies were not immediately available for comment.

Top 15 Jobs for college students

Top 15 Jobs for college students[/caption]

Math majors don’t always get much respect on college campuses, but fat post-grad wallets should be enough to give them a boost.

The top 15 highest-earning college degrees all have one thing in common — math skills. That’s according to a recent survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, which tracks college graduates’ job offers.

Math is at the crux of who gets paid,” said Ed Koc, director of research at NACE. “If you have those skills, you are an extremely valuable asset. We don’t generate enough people like that in this country.”

This year Rochester Institute of Technology hosted recruiters from defense-industry firms like Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, as well as other big companies like Microsoft and Johnson & Johnson.

“The tech fields are what’s driving salaries and offers, and the top students are faring quite well,” said Emanuel Contomanolis, who runs RIT’s career center.

Specifically, engineering diplomas account for 12 of the 15 the top-paying majors. NACE collects its data by surveying 200 college career centers. (more…)

Via – drewreports.com – As we previously reported, 50 Cent is currently preparing to release his “50th Law” book and now details on the new book have become available through the books publisher, Andrew Franklin.

According to Franklin, the new book will feature the business-minded rap-mogul instead of highlighting his lyrics. “Those who dismiss 50 Cent as a gangster should rethink, his continued presence in the Forbes Rich List and entrepreneurial shows there is a lot more to the man than his music,” Franklin said in an interview.

He added it was “not just an informed strategy” but also “an incredible story of survival, rehabilitation and upward mobility” from life in the ghetto to the boardroom. “The essential tenet of the book, inspired by 50’s experiences, is that your fears are a prison which hold you back-you should be yourself, fear nothing, focus on what you want and have no ‘Plan B.’”
