Basketball Wives Boycott Gains Thousands of Followers

May 2nd, 2012

An amazing lady by the name of Alexis M. has engaged in a one-woman campaign to take on the dastardly behemoth otherwise known as “Basketball Wives.”

As a woman on a mission, Alexis has accumulated thousands of signatures for her petition to stop the production of spinoff “Ev and Ocho,” featuring the always-angry Evelyn Lozada and her peculiar fiancé Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.

When it was reported that the online petition against Evelyn Lozada was gaining steam, all I could say was “yes lawud.” I love the idea of a real woman standing up to the bully and reclaiming the image of Black women across the globe.

Alexis M. has begun contacting major corporations to ask that they spend their advertising dollars elsewhere. She is also getting support from those of us who are tired of seeing women of color portrayed as feminine gang bangers, getting in each other’s faces and slapping one another to the ground. It’s nearly impossible to teach young people to avoid violence when it seems that these 30-somethings always turn to violence as the first resort.

When I see the image of Evelyn’s snarling face, I can’t help but visualize her as the angry kid in kindergarten, throwing violent temper tantrums when she didn’t get her way. I then see her as the “Queen Bee” in middle school, as she points out the overweight girl with zits and murders the child’s self-esteem every morning in front of the class. Finally, I see Evelyn as the prom queen, living under the false assumption that her looks are a “get-out-of-jail-free” card that allows her to hurt other people and get away with it.

I am proud of Alexis M. for attempting the impossible and finally being the person who holds Evelyn accountable. Alexis represents all the little girls who become suicidal after relentless bullying by the Evelyn Lozada wannabes being created each night by VH1. She represents the overweight, depressed 12-year-old who loses friends because the Queen Bee makes others not want to be associated with her.

Evelyn’s activities on this show are not only disgraceful, but they play a direct role in creating hatred in places where we could have just as easily created compassion. Standing up to the bully in public doesn’t just make us feel better, it serves to protect all the children across the country who are being terrorized by bullies themselves. It is for these reasons that I say, Run, Alexis, run,” we’re all rooting for you.

Single Ladies Returns to VH1 on May 28, 2012 – 9pm

May 1st, 2012

When Single Ladies returns for season two on May 28, the VH1 series will still feature snappy dialogue, killer couture and fierce friendships — but it will be missing star Stacey Dash, who bowed out after the freshman season.

She will be replaced by All My Children’s Denise Vasi, who comes on as Raquel, a friend of Keisha’s.

Now, with a little over one month until we all get Single again, TheInsider.com is thrilled to present the first promo for season two — one that proves Raquel will bring just as much heat to Atlanta!
