Singer Joe Accuses R. Kelly of Sabotaging His Music Career

joe-singer-jemblog-dot-comAccording to hellobeautiful.com, R&B singer Joe is alleging that R. Kelly attempted to sabotage his career. Joe provided competition for R. Kelly around 2000 when his album, My Name is Joe, sold more than three million copies and reached the #2 spot on the Billboard top 200 list. During that same year, Joe was nominated for Grammy’s for Best Male R&B Performance as well as Best R&B Album. R. Kelly most likely felt competition from Joe due to the fact that he was also nominated for the same awards, and while his album TP-2.com reached the #1 spot on the Billboard 200, Joe’s position as #2 was much closer than any male R&B artist had been to taking over his position atop the music charts.

A recent interview with DJ Vlad is where Joe revealed that he received information from friends of his in the industry that R. Kelly demanded that various program directors stop playing Joe’s music in attempt to stifle the competition from threatening his status as the king of R&B during that time. R. Kelly threatened that he would never visit the programs again if they did not comply with his demand. Joe stated to DJ Vlad that he is confident the allegations are true and that he believes that no one man has the power to make an music outlet or venue not play a particular artists music simply because they are a competitor for air time and album sales.

Joe did state during the interview that he does respect R. Kelly who is currently enjoying some mild success from his most recent album, Chocolate Factory. Considering the legal trouble R. Kelly has faced over the years for allegedly sleeping with underage girls, Joe’s statement implies that he maintains some level of respect for R. Kelly on a professional level.
