WATCH RARE FOOTAGE OF PRINCE AND KENDRICK LAMAR PERFORMING TOGETHER AT PAISLEY PARK (Video)


As never-before-seen videos, interviews, and anecdotes surrounding Prince continue to surface, this rare footage—courtesy of Paisley Park and Yahoo!—feels particularly special.

In 2014, Kendrick Lamar was invited to the Paisley Park estate to join Prince on stage in celebration of his then newly released albums, Plectrumelectrum and Art Official Age. Performing 1998’s “What’s My Name” from Crystal Ball, the audience got a glimpse into a truly once-in-a-lifetime show, though this wouldn’t be the only time K. Dot and Prince connected.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Kendrick had initially planned for Prince to sing the hook on “Complexion (A Zulu Love).” In The Grammys’ oral history of TLOP, Lamar confirmed that Prince heard and liked the record, and even talked about collaborating. But due to time constraints, the idea was eventually scrapped. untitled unmastered. was also reportedly inspired by Prince—particularly The Purple One’s Black Album—as TDE Co-President Terrence “Punch” Henderson confirmed in March.

Prince, too, admired Kendrick. In an interview with Medium from 2015, Prince spoke highly of Kendrick, saying “He just has something he has to say. It’s pure. And with Thundercat on the [To Pimp A Butterfly]? Come on. You’re not taking ‘Alright’ off my playlist!”
